Loved all of this! Thanks for all the tips and inspiration. Regarding crafting adventures…this year I decided to make all gifts with the exception of purchasing a few things off eBay. I made terrariums out of clear plastic tube like containers that used to be reservoirs for a humidifier. But the cooking related gifts were personalized potholders and 6-month steeped vanilla ! Fifteen years ago, I received a pair of flannel sewn potholders as a hostess gift for my annual holiday party and I still use them to this day and think of the gift giver so I replicated them with personalized flannel fabric like Star Wars or owls. Now I want to make your tea towels for next year!!
Loved reading this article. Many years ago when I worked at FIT in NYC, I had the privilege to watch some Fashion Design students hand paint silk fabric for their end of year show. The results were gorgeous and I even managed to buy a scarf that was made afterwards. Your tie dye project sounds fun. One thing tripped me up: why would you keep an old IUD on a shelf in a jar? That randomly placed object stuck out - the story that needed to be written? Just curious.
i like to collect bits of my own personal history and put them on display, I suppose. Currently resting on top of the jar is a chicken's wishbone, of a similar shape to the iud—a pairing that always makes me laugh.
